The Dream: An automated gripping tool that could locate and nest 2500 different parts of various shapes and sizes for machine processing.

The Result: Five quick change tool sets combine with an custom designed electro-magnetic gripping head to accept all 2500 parts. Parts are located securely, poke-yoke’d, and feedback sensors ensure the machine operator has placed the correct parts into the process.

GRZ developed this production gripper through an intensive concept phase where hundreds of iterative design loops were evaluated and tested using rapid prototyping methods. Once final design drawings were released, local machine and heat-treat partners were employed to bring the concept to reality.
